Podcast: Fulham Women: Bridging the Gap

13th January 2025

Claire, Jack and Yasmin join Sammy on today’s pod to react to the Fulham Womens team’s heavy but honourable defeat to the London City Lionesses in the FA Cup. Fulham Women were the lowest ranked side still left in the competition and coming up against a team flying in the Women’s Championship was always going to be a tough ask.

After a valiant first 25 minutes of soaking up pressure, Fulham conceded to an impressive Boye-Hlorkah hat-trick that seemed to punish the smallest of errors. An Asllani penalty and a composed finish from Goodwin, saw the London City Lionesses secure a position in the next round of the competition. But Fulham Women can be proud of their progress and return to their aim of progressing out of the fifth tier of the football league.

We review the highlights of Sunday’s midday match and discuss the wider context of the womens’ game, looking over how greater investment in the side could bridge the gap between Fulham’s and other Premier League womens sides.
