Mitrović can spearhead our Premier League survival bid
31st March 2022
Despite a tough campaign last time the Whites dined at the top table, Mitro is primed to shine should the Whites bag promotion.
While manager Marco Silva and the players will still be focused on getting promotion secured in the Championship this season, there will be those in the hierarchy at Fulham who will already be preparing for life back in the Premier League. Aleksandar Mitrović has already he can score goals at the highest level, and the striker will be key to Fulham’s bid to stay in the top flight next term.
Resolve to keep Mitrović pays off
After relegation last season, there was plenty of speculation regarding Mitrović’s future at Craven Cottage. Fulham managed to fend off interested parties and their ability to keep hold of the Serbian international has paid off.
The Cottagers are edging closer to promotion and returning to the head table of English football to play the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, who are 4/9 favourites in the Premier League winner odds this season. With 35 league goals in his first 35 appearances of the campaign, Mitrović has been key to Fulham’s success this term. After those 35 games, Harry Wilson was the second-highest goalscorer at the club with 10. It just shows the influence their star striker has had this season and why he will be such a valuable asset next term.
Despite some criticism and scepticism as to whether he can cut it in the top flight, Mitrović is ready-made for the Premier League and will be determined to show his quality on the big stage once again. The 27-year-old showed loyalty after relegation last term and his determination to get Fulham back to the top flight has certainly done no harm to his reputation with the supporters.
Mitro will need support
While Silva has the ideal frontman, should Fulham do as expected and secure promotion back to the Premier League, Mitrović’s goals alone are unlikely to be enough to keep the Whites away from danger. It looks set to be an intriguing summer ahead in terms of recruitment at Craven Cottage, as Silva will be determined to bring in the quality additions needed to be competitive in the Premier League.
Another proven goalscorer is likely to be on the agenda to support Mitro or stand in for the Serbian should he be forced to miss games next term. Plans for recruitment will already be well underway and it will be interesting to see which fresh faces come through the doors at Craven Cottage this summer. Fulham did well to keep many of their top players after relegation last season and summer signings will be able to build on that core group that has been through so much together already.
There is no doubting Mitrović is the main man at Craven Cottage and should promotion be secured, his talents will be essential for Fulham’s hopes of becoming Premier League regulars once again.
