Player Ratings: Crawley Town 2-0 Fulham
Written by Sammy James on 23rd August 2022
Sammy James rates the performances of the Fulham team after a miserable cup defeat at Crawley Town.
My word, where to start. Losing in the Carabao Cup second round isn’t that deep, but there were some alarming performances all over the pitch against the side EIGHTY-FOUR places below us in the football pyramid.
Marek Rodak
Nothing that Marek could have done about either goal, but his distribution was generally pretty poor. Couple of decent saves to stop it becoming even more embarrassing. 5/10
Kevin Mbabu
Was hoping for great things from Kevin after Saturday’s impressive cameo, but this was not a continuation. Linked reasonably well with Fossey in the 20 minutes, but quickly fell into the malaise of the rest of the team 5/10
Shane Duffy
Tried in vain to rally the Fulham defence into some sort of organisation. Ponderous on the ball, and every pass back to Marek Rodak gave me shivers. Showed some character in the second half, and at times looked like he was on a one man mission to dribble through the entire Crawley defence. 4/10
Issa Diop
My word, a debut to forget for our £15m signing. Looked completely out of his depth against League Two opposition. In fairness, West Ham fans did warn us about some of his previous cup performances against Kidderminster and AFC Wimbledon. Was ok-ish in possession, but some of his defending was comical, particularly the second goal. The only way is up?! 2/10
Joe Bryan
If this was to be Joe’s final appearance then it was not a fitting end. Couldn’t cope with Crawley’s press and failed to develop any connection with youngster Luke Harris on the left-wing. Getting hauled at half-time says a lot about Marco’s thoughts on Joe. 3/10
Tyrese Francois
A tough night at the office for Tyrese, who struggled to get a foothold on the game. Sloppy pass lead to Crawley’s second goal 4/10
Nathaniel Chalobah
Not seen a performance that bad from a Fulham player in years, this was Mark Fotheringham levels. I cannot even fathom what he is trying to do when he mis-controls the ball for Crawley’s first goal. Also, he killed any attack that he was involved in, and at times he didn’t look like he was trying. 0/10
Tom Cairney
Started brightly, but got worse as the night went on. His set-piece repertoire included hitting the wall twice and a hilarious slip whilst taking a corner in the dying minutes. However, he did look like the only one capable of producing any genuine quality. 5.5/10
Luke Harris
We know that Luke has bags of potential, but he just didn’t get any chances to show it. Not sure left-wing is the best place to play a fox-in-the-box type forward. 5/10
Jay Stansfield
The only player to keep his spot from Saturday, and he did show glimpses of why Marco is trusting him in the first team. Grew frustrated towards the end of the second half, as he struggled for service. 6/10
Marlon Fossey
Bright start from the American, possibly should have capitalised more when he broke into good spaces early on. Was moved from right-wing to left-back at half-time, and he was reasonably solid there too 6.5/10

Terry Ablade (45′ for Joe Bryan)
Bags of pace, and put it to decent use a few times. Not sure pumping long-balls at him was the solution. 6.5/10
Martial Godo (45′ for Luke Harris)
Very promising debut from young Martial. Caused all sorts of problems on the left-wing, and went very close to scoring early in the second half. Bright future ahead. 7/10 – Man of the Match
