Before The Whistle: Fulham v Chelsea
Written by Drew Heatley on 29th September 2023
SW6 derbies feel a bit different nowadays.
We no longer go into them fearing them. Writing them off. Instead, we know we’ll be competitive – and in the last two outings, we’ve got results.
Chelsea have had an indifferent start to the season and currently sit three points and three places below us in the table. So rest assured they’ll be up for trying to overtake us on Monday thanks to our inferior goal difference.
After a win in the Carabao Cup in midweek, Marco Silva has one or two decisions to make due to the performances of some of the lads who slotted in. The Vinicius versus Jimenez rumbles on; Carlos bagged a goal on Wednesday, but was also guilty of missing a few more chances – expect Silva to stick with his Mexican option, at least for one more game.
Another player who turned heads against Norwich was Alex Iwobi. The Nigerian bagged our second, grabbed an assist, and duly won man of the match. His versatility means he could slot in almost anywhere in the middle, but you’d have to assume Andreas Pereira is the most concerned about losing his spot.
Elsewhere, with Kenny Tete’s fitness still to be assessed, Castagne could keep his place at right-back, while Tosin and Adama Traore remain sidelined.
Regardless of form, this is a big one – that goes without saying. Let’s hope the boys rise to the occasion. You Whites.
