Before The Whistle: Fulham v Sheffield United
Written by Drew Heatley on 6th October 2023
As Fulham fans, there’s something fundamentally uncomfortable about being the favourites going into a game.
Bottom side Sheffield United visit the Cottage this weekend, giving us a chance to bounce back from our SW6 derby defeat but, as with Luton last month, we’re almost in a no-win situation. Regardless, three points is the only palatable outcome.
There are question marks over Antonee Robinson, with USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter leaving him out of his squad for the upcoming international break citing a groin injury. With Timothy Castagne still covering for Kenny Tete, this may give Fode Ballo-Toure a chance to deputise and give Jedi a longer chance to recover.
Up top, the age-old debate continues. But with Jimenez subbed on 52 minutes against Chelsea, it could well be time for Vini to start against the Blades. Calls for Iwobi to come in and give Andreas Pereira a bit of a break continue to grow louder, but don’t expect too many changes in one go from Marco.
If there was to be a final change, then it could be Calvin Bassey coming in for Tim Ream. Our American stalwart continues to fall a bit short of the (admittedly high) bar set for him, and after his high-profile clanger on Monday, he may well make way.
It’s a big chance to get more crucial points on the board ahead of the international break. Let’s hope the boys take it. You Whites.
