Before The Whistle: Newcastle United v Fulham
Written by Drew Heatley on 15th December 2023
It’s a long trip north this weekend as the Whites look for a third win in a row in the Premier League. However, a third 5-0 win in a row might be too much to ask for, despite Newcastle’s injury crisis and low morale following their Champions League exit in midweek.
Willian was taken off at half-time against West Ham as a precaution, according to Marco Silva. That could give Harry Wilson the chance to slot in on the right and Alex Iwobi to move to the left wing.
In the middle, it’s all about who will partner Palhinha. Despite his impressive performance against the Hammers, and form of late, it feels inevitable that Tom Cairney will make way for Harrison Reed or maybe even Sasa Lukic.
Our defence is looking a lot more settled of late. Bassey and Tosin have the centre-back slots sewn up for now, so the only question is whether Kenny Tete will come in for Timothy Castagne. The Belgian has impressed, and seems more suited to Silva’s tactical plans of late, so Kenny will have to work hard to force his way back in.
A win would take us within two points of the Magpies, who have tailed off following a strong start to the campaign. It’d also firmly position us in the top half of the table. But we mustn’t get ahead of ourselves – this’ll be a tough one. You Whites.
