Before The Whistle: Fulham v Burnley
Written by Drew Heatley on 23rd December 2023
The cupboards are full of food you can’t eat; the tree is flanked by dozens of presents you can’t open – thank God Fulham’s here to give you an early Christmas treat.
Well, so we hope. We face 19th-placed Burnley this weekend at the Cottage, and it’s safe to say the Clarets have found life back in the Premier League tougher than they might’ve thought.
But mugs they are not; Vincent Kompany has shown he’s got the minerals for management, so rest assured there’s still plenty of fight left in this particular dog.
Traore and Ream are both still out, and Raul Jimenez is serving game two of his three-match ban. Muniz was given the nod against Everton in midweek, but it remains to be seen who’ll Silva will opt for in the league.
It was interesting to see Iwobi in the 10 in the Carabao Cup, and although the former Everton man didn’t look as effective as he has in other roles this term, it was a telling move from Marco – I’d not be surprised to see him get the nod over Pereira again.
As always, Joao’s place on the pitch is cemented. It’s who will line up next to him that’s the question. Could Cairney come back in for a game in which we’d expect to see more of the ball? I can’t see Reed keeping that spot, as good as he is.
This is a golden opportunity to move us back into the top half before we tuck into our Christmas dinners. What an early gift that’d be. You Whites.
