Before The Whistle: Fulham v Liverpool
Written by Drew Heatley on 19th April 2024
It feels like we’ve had more games against Liverpool this season than there are Fast & Furious films.
But here we are again. The last time we played the Scousers at home in the Premier League, we announced our return with a solid – and widely unexpected – 2-2 draw. Truth be told, we like to hold our own against Liverpool; we’ve scored five against them in the three games we’ve played them in so far this term. The trouble is, they scored seven.
Nevertheless, we have a chance to cement Manchester City’s lead by sticking another nail in the coffin of the Jurgen Klopp farewell tour. It seems that the sheer presence of City behind them has made Liverpool and Arsenal soil themselves, and if Crystal Palace can get three points at Anfield, there’s no reason we can’t get a result at the Cottage.
I’d expect an unchanged side from the XI that won at the London Stadium last weekend. Lukic came in for Cairney and I feel like Silva will want to retain that option in a game where we’re unlikely to have the lion’s share of possession. Iwobi didn’t have his best game against the Hammers, but he has credit in the bank and grabbed an assist, so he’s likely to remain unmoved.
Having a fully fit squad is a rare thing; the bench last Sunday was the strongest it’s looked all campaign. If we are to finally grab a W against Liverpool in our fourth attempt, Sunday certainly feels like the best opportunity to do so. You Whites.
