Before The Whistle: Manchester United v Fulham

Written by Drew Heatley on 15th August 2024

There’s something about that feeling of optimism on the eve of a new season.

Regardless of the comings and goings of the summer months, there’s that feeling that anything could happen on the opening day – the script’s yet to be written.

That’s certainly how I feel as we head to Old Trafford on Friday night. Despite not yet replacing Tosin at RCB and, of course, Joao Palhinha in the middle, I feel we can get a result against Manchester United, who are without key players including new signing Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund.

Injury-wise, the Whites have a clean bill of health, but we’re thin when it comes to players; only 24 men have been assigned first-team squad numbers so far.

Nevertheless, the starting XI against Hoffenheim in our final pre-season friendly looked strong. I expect that’ll be the line-up on Friday. That would mean a start for record signing Emile Smith Rowe in an attacking line-up.

Regardless of the result, let’s keep this optimism going. Our squad is never finalised until the end of August, and we have enough about us to get some points on the board before then. You Whites.
