Before The Whistle: West Ham United v Fulham

Written by Drew Heatley on 13th January 2025

We’ve been enjoying London derbies lately – but that doesn’t mean we expect anything from them.

It’s no different as we travel to East London to face West Ham on Tuesday night. The slugs were so terrified of the mighty Whites coming to town that the got rid of Julien Lopetegui and bought in Graham Potter in search of the fabled new manager bounce.

Potter best bring his magic wand as we sit top of the highly revered London derby table, with 12 points from six games so far this season. West Ham have just one London derby win this term, though that was a 4-1 drubbing of Spurs, so we know they’re capable.

Our last league game versus Ipswich saw Marco move away from his five-at-the-back experiment at half-time, with Issa Diop making way at the break. Joachim Andersen celebrated that particular victory with an uncharacteristic goal against Watford in midweek.

Everyone wants to know who will partner Sasa Lukic in the middle of the park. We saw Tom Cairney do it against Ipswich, and fail to impress, then Andreas Pereira filled the role against Watford, with more success. But Sander Berge is back in training and if the Norwegian is fit to return, then it’s got to be an open-and-shut case.

The FA Cup victory saw Emile Smith Rowe return to the 10, which you’ve got to think will continue Tuesday. Rodrigo Muniz led the line but pulled up injured at the break. Marco Silva says he’ll probably be ready, but it’ll still likely be Raul Jimenez back in the nine.

Our current league run is a funny one. Are we unbeaten in eight, or do we have just two wins in our last nine? Both are true, but it’s time to turning one point into three – and avoid zero at all costs. You whites.
