Before The Whistle: Fulham v Manchester United

Written by Drew Heatley on 24th January 2025

This game against United feels different.

History doesn’t matter here. Except in the sense that their series of late winners and undeserved three points in the last couple of seasons should rankle with Marco’s boys – and we should be ready to correct those injustices on Sunday night.

The Red Devils have taken a hammering from much of the Premier League this season, yet we fell to them at the death on the Premier League’s opening night.

But the season has shaken out since then, and we’re firmly above them in the table, and have far more going for us. This is an opportunity we should grab with both hands.

We returned to winning ways against Leicester, thanks in no small part to the return of Sander Berge in the centre alongside Sasa Lukic. That duo will hopefully provide the base for a strong XI on Sunday evening, though our Serbian is on nine yellow cards, so whether they’ll stay together for the trip to Newcastle next weekened is anyone’s guess.

All things considered, it’s likely to be an unchanged line-up that started at the King Power, and who would argue with that? You don’t change a winning side after all.

It was hardly a vintage performance last weekend, but against a United side on its knees, you’d hope we’ll rise to the occasion. You Whites.
