Before The Whistle: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Fulham
Written by Drew Heatley on 25th February 2025

We’ve all heard the stat by now. It’s a shade under 40 years since our last league win at Molineux.
And if you look at the scoreline the last time we met – the infamous 4-1 gubbing at the Cottage in November – you’d be forgiven for thinking that stretch is set to be extended.
But this is a Fulham side that’s not afraid to get stuck in on the road, and Wolves are indifferent at best on their home turf this season.
They’ve opened up a five-point gap on Ipswich since the arrival of new manager Vítor Pereira and sit just outside the relegation zone, but it’s been far from a satisfactory season.
The Whites are coming off an insipid home performance on Saturday against Crystal Palace. It wasn’t quite the same level of dross as our defeat to Wolves, but it wasn’t far off. We embarked on a nine-game unbeaten run after that game – what are the odds we could do that again?
There are question marks over the fitness of Emile Smith Rowe and Tom Cairney, after both were forced off against Palace. Marco Silva says he doesn’t want to risk either player, and with Andreas Pereira ready to slot in in the 10, there seems little need to.
A win would see us pass the mythical, and increasingly redundant, 40-point mark and keep us I contention for Europe, however unlikely that may feel. Though three points in the Black Country would no doubt have us reaching for those passports once more.
