Before The Whistle: Fulham v Liverpool

Written by Drew Heatley on 4th April 2025

Easy one, this.

Just the champions elect coming to the Cottage while we’re at arguably our lowest ebb of the season.

Gallows humour aside, there won’t be too many people backing us to get one over on Liverpool on Sunday, but stranger things have happened – we got a point at Anfield, after all.

Marco Silva made several changes at the Emirates on Tuesday, and it wouldn’t be a shock if he continued with five at the back this weekend, such is the calibre of our opponents.

The make-up of the three centre-backs would still be up for grabs. Calvin Bassey sat out the game in midweek, but he’s had a good season and it’d be harsh to leave him out again. On the right, Marco Silva says that Kenny Tete is in contention. Is everyone’s favourite Dutchman ready to relieve Timmy Castagne?

The biggest question, however, is around Ryan Sessegnon. Our starboy is knocking on the door, putting in influential cameos whenever he’s called on. This could well be the fixture in which he returns to the starting XI, particularly after Emile Smith Rowe had another torrid night last time out.

Results went out way in midweek, slightly mitigating our loss. I don’t think that’ll happen again, so a point would be gratefully received. If not, Europe starts to drift out of sight.
